WaveStar
We had
the chance to visit some company with our school. It is very interesting and
rewarding to do that because we learn directly on the spot with professionals.

So we
visited a big laundry for professional and Tulips company which produce food
like sausage, salami etc. On there we saw the different methods of heating and
speak about how to use less of energy. Also we went to see an experimental
space with different Wind mill turbine. Unfortunately, the man who had to make
the visit was sick so we didn’t go on the top of one which was very high.
We
visited also a Wave power energy company. I will speak about it because it is
directly the subject of our final project in our French school and because we
are very interesting in Renewable Energy.
This
company is on the west coast in Hanstholm. It is here that there are the best
waves on the North because there are a lot of winds from everywhere (for sure a
lot of winds). So it is the best place to install and test wave energy
equipment.
Wave Star Energy machine |
Wave Star company want to find new way to have clean energy from the wave with little effects
on the environment. So after many research this company created the Wave star
Energy.
Floats moving with the waves |
Inside of the machine, the generators |
This machine must be at the end a big machine able to produce a lot of
electricity with a “simple” process. Several floats are attached by arms on a
platform fixed on the sea floor. The floats move when the waves go up and down.
These movements are transferred via hydraulics into the rotation of a generator
which producing electricity.

This
project was born with an idea of the Brother Hansen in 2000 and became real in
2003 when they purchased the right for it. At this moment, they knew that there
was a huge commercial potential of wave energy. So they explored this project
with the help of Aalborg University. And together they tried the concept
created on a scale 1:40 model in 2004 in a wave test tank to see its
performances. And in 2005 the machine on a scale 1:10 model was installing in
the sea where the waves aren’t higher than in the North Sea, to see the first
practical issues which can happening in the sea. Each time they tried to
optimize the concept and at the end they make the equipment that we visited.
Machine on a scale 1/2 models on Hanstholm |
It’s
on a scale ½ models which was built in 2009 and has been connected to the grid
since February 2010. And since May 2010 a monthly production report has been
made and delivered to the Danish company EnergiNet.dk which is responsible of
the energy production in Denmark. This machine is still experimental; the electricity
produced is not usable for the moment. But the resultants are good and
encouraging for the future.

So they expect to increase and build machine with
the best possible potency. And also, they hope to change the world’s mindset
about how we can produce clean and unlimited energy.
